Multicultural
Speaking as someone familiar with the challenges of alienation and isolation that often accompany students with multicultural backgrounds, Jon is prepared to lead and engage students in these important conversations.
Jon shares the story of his parents coming to America and settling in Chicago. Longevity, hard work and education were part of their philosophy, and that has played a significant role in Jon’s career and success.
When Jon was awarded the Philippine Presidential Award, it changed his perception of what he was trying to accomplish. In addition to making great music on the saxophone, he realized the impact he could have by representing his culture and his heritage.
“I want to leave my kids with the idea of working hard, being true to yourself, and being at peace with where you come from, despite anyone trying to knock you down or tell you otherwise—and to gain courage and confidence to be yourself at all costs.”
